Thomson Roddick Callan

The Carlisle Auction Centre

We moved to our current premises off Burgh Road, Carlisle in 2018 but have been auctioneering in Carlisle, Cumbria and the surrounding area for decades, from where we particularly cover Cumbria, the Lake District and the north of England in general.

Before our move to Burgh Road Estate we could be found in Carlisle city centre and, later, on Shaddongate. Perhaps you have seen the auction room or a member of the team on one of the auction television programs that we appear on. These include Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip, Dickinson's Real Deal, Cash in the Attic and the much missed Flog It!

The Auctions

Our Carlisle branch conducts around 30 auctions annually with those auctions being split into five separate overall categories - The Antique Auction, The Collectors Auction, The Book Auction, The Music, Vinyl & Entertainment Auction and The Home Furnishing & Interiors Auction.

Antique auctions are held quarterly, typically with 400-500 choice lots on offer and bring together the best quality and higher value items identified by the specialist departments in the previous three-month period, to include silver, jewellery, clocks & watches, antique and contemporary paintings, porcelain & pottery, textiles & costume, 20th century design and fine furniture.

Collectors auctions are held quarterly and comprise toys & model railways, coins & banknotes, medals & militaria, vintage cameras and much else of interest to the collector.

Book auctions, a long-established part of our business, are held at approximately six-week intervals and each auction typically comprises around 300 lots of antiquarian and collectable books, together with related items.

Music, vinyl & entertainment auctions are held two or three times a year with a particular focus on vintage vinyl LPs and records, musical instruments and related ephemera and collectables.

These four auction styles are conducted in the auction room but also broadcast online on our website and on major auction portal websites to reach a global audience.

Click the individual departments above to find out more.

The remaining 12 auctions held each year are the Home Furnishings & Interiors auctions (in the past, colloquially known as "general sales") which are held on the first Monday of the month, commencing at 10am with viewing on the Friday prior. These auctions are populated with items from house clearances, deceased estates and entries from private clients. Here you will find decorative ceramics, jewellery, gold and silver, books, vintage trunks and cases, 20th century design, vintage and retro items, furniture, rugs, collectables, glassware, lamps, pictures and other chattels, many of which can go to furnishing a stylish home at relatively little expense. These auctions are now broadcast online with live bidding, you can participate by registering an account directly with thomsonroddick.com or via easyliveauction.com. If you are looking for something in particular then give our staff a call or email us and we will endeavour to assist.

If you haven't bid with us before then see our "How To Bid" page.
