In June 2022 Thomas R Callan Ltd merged their business with Thomson Roddick forming Thomson Roddick Callan creating an exciting new network of auction galleries across central and southern Scotland and northern England. You will now find salerooms and expertise in Ayr, Carlisle, Dumfries and Edinburgh. Today the business has a combined 250 years of auction excellence.

Our auction teams and specialists have featured on many auction television programs and have appeared on Bargain Hunt, Antique Road Trip, Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, Dickinson’s Real Deal, Cash in the Attic and the ever-popular Flog It.  Tune in to our new television series, The Edinburgh Auction House, following the Scottish team as they travel around the country searching for exciting lots to sell.  Starting at 9pm on 10th January 2023 on the Really channel, it's sure to be a great watch!

Callan’s moved to their current premises in the 1980’s from the redeveloped high street in Ayr. Michael Callan joined the business in 1998 and took over from his father David Callan as Managing Director in 2011.

The Auctions

The Ayr saleroom conducts around 24 auctions annually, these include fortnightly home furnishings and interior auctions. These sales have a combination of affordable, unique and stylish antique and contemporary household furnishings. There is something for everyone and include jewellery and watches, decorative ceramics and glass ware, 20^th century design, vintage and retro items, furniture, rugs, books and vinyl, pictures and mirrors, collectables and a vast eclectic mix of household furnishings.

These home furnishings and interior sales are online, allowing you to browse our catalogues from the comfort of your own home. The Ayr saleroom also conducts quarterly specialist sales of antiques and fine art, which include a special emphasis on contemporary Scottish art. The sales boast the very best of antiques and fine art and include quality diamond and gem-set jewellery, luxury wristwatches, prized porcelain and glass ware, fabulous bronze sculptures, collectable militaria and medals, rare Chinese and oriental works of art, unique pieces of period furniture and a stunning gallery of traditional fine art by renowned Scottish artists and collections of contemporary art from some of the finest present day artists.  These specialist sales are hosted online with Easy Live Auctions and the-saleroom.com, which has 6 million buyers across 160 different countries.

Valuations

The valuation team based at the Ayr auction centre is headed by Michael Callan and supported by auctioneer and valuer, David Miller (auction manager), and Pippa Wilkins and are further supported by our in-house auctioneering staff.

We can provide valuations or advice for further auction purposes over email and telephone, by home visit or by appointment at the auction room. Valuation mornings are held in the auction room each Friday between 9am and 4pm by appointment.

Valuations for inheritance tax or insurance purposes are conducted throughout Scotland. We have even travelled as far north as Shetland to conduct a valuation.
