Thomson, Roddick & Medcalf`s antique and fine art sale on Friday 23rd September in Carlisle included a small but select private collection of 20th century pictures by Ulster artists. These include a fine oil painting by Markey Robinson (illustrated above) and an exceptional wax crayon work entitled “The Feis” by William Conor; this depicts two girls dancing for a fiddler. There is also a watercolour by Thomas Carr, an abstract oil of a beach scene by Malcolm Bennett and a stylish oil by Olive Henry.

Some other attractive pictures in the sale included three small oils by Ken Howard and a few 19th century maritime pictures including works by William Thornley, D. F. McLea and William Joy.

There was also a good general selection of antiques and decorative effects together with oriental works of art which include some good Satsuma ceramics and a large antique Chinese bronze bowl on stand decorated in high relief overall with dragons, cloud scrolls and flaming pearls.

Amongst the antique furniture was some attractive seat furniture and a number of inlaid late Victorian and Edwardian pieces. There are also a number of pieces of 20th century Chinese hardwood furniture.
