Thomson, Roddick & Medcalf`s antique and fine art sale on Friday 23rd September in Carlisle will include a small but select private collection of 20th century pictures by Ulster artists. These include a fine oil painting by Markey Robinson (illustrated above) and an exceptional wax crayon work entitled “The Feis” by William Conor; this depicts two girls dancing for a fiddler. There is also a watercolour by Thomas Carr, an abstract oil of a beach scene by Malcolm Bennett and a stylish oil by Olive Henry.

There are some other attractive pictures in the sale including three small oils by Ken Howard and a few 19th century maritime pictures including works by William Thornley, D. F. McLea and William Joy.

There is also a good general selection of antiques and decorative effects together with oriental works of art which include some good Satsuma ceramics and a large antique Chinese bronze bowl on stand decorated in high relief overall with dragons, cloud scrolls and flaming pearls.

Amongst the antique furniture is some attractive seat furniture and a number of inlaid late Victorian and Edwardian pieces. There are also a number of pieces of 20th century Chinese hardwood furniture.

The sale is on view on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st, between 10am and 5pm on Thursday 22nd and on the morning of sale from 9am. The sale commences at 11am and live online bidding is available for parties unable to attend. Telephone and commission bidding can also be arranged.
