Q. When are the auctions held?

Edinburgh
The Auction Centre, Carnethie Street, Rosewell EH24 9AL. 
Home Furnishings & Interiors sales are held weekly on a Thursday, starting at 4pm. 
Antiques, Fine Art and Oriental Works of Art auctions are held monthly, starting at 10.30am. 
Six Collectors sales are held throughout the year, starting at 10.30am.

Q. When can I bring items in for valuation and auction?


In Edinburgh, we prefer to receive goods on Fridays and Mondays between 9am and 5pm. In Dumfries, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9am and 5pm are best for deliveries. We are always happy to give free pre-sales advice via email or by attending one of our free valuation days - held in Dumfries every Monday between 9.30am and 11.30am and in Edinburgh on Wednesdays between 10am and 2pm.

We are also happy to arrange home visits for larger amounts of small items and furniture.


Q. Is there a car park?


We have a car park at the Dumfries Auction Centre, which is available to park in when you bring items in for auction or attend an auction. On street parking is also available.

There is ample free on-street parking at the Edinburgh Auction Centre.


Q. How are lots catalogued?


We publish a catalogue with lot descriptions and photographs, which is available to view on the internet. This applies to antique and collector's sales only. Our general auctions in Edinburgh have simple catalogue lists.


Q. How is payment made?


A cheque and statement are sent out three weeks from the date of the sale.  Any unsold lots in our Home Furnishings & Interiors sales are automatically re-entered into the next sale.

 

Buying at TRSA


Q. When can I view items to be sold in the Forthcoming Auction?

Dumfries:
Auctions are on view the day before the sale from 2pm – 5pm and on the morning of the sale from 9am.

Edinburgh
Auctions are on view the afternoon of the sale from 1pm – 4pm

Q. How do I bid at auction?


Prospective buyers must have a bidding number, which can be obtained from reception.


Q. How long does it take to sell the lots?


We sell between 150 and 200 lots an hour, and run in numerical order. Please ask the office for estimated start times for the different sections.


Q. Can I purchase refreshments?


In Dumfries we have a café on sale day with hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes to purchase.


Q. What is the buyer’s premium?


In addition to the hammer price, buyers pay 15% commission plus VAT on this commission.


Q. What methods of payment are accepted?

Payment will be accepted by debit or credit cards (subject to an additional charge for credit cards), bank transfers or cash by bidders attending the saleroom in person.

Commission and telephone bidders may only pay by debit or credit card if the card-holder attends the office in person with identification (proof of personal identification and the card-holding address). 

Otherwise, payment must be made by BACS/CHAPS or electronic bank transfer (with the purchaser being liable for all costs incurred), you must request our bank details by email and payment must be made on receipt of these. 

Payment by credit card incurs a 3% charge.


Q. When can I collect items purchased at auction?


Goods can be collected on the day of the sale, usually as soon as they have been paid for, or within two working days of the auction. Failure to collect after this time will incur storage charges of £5 plus VAT per item per day. We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.


Q. Please bring your own packing materials.

We are not able to offer a packing and shipping service, however Mail Boxes specialise in packing and shipping smaller items (under 30kg). 

Clients should contact Mike Smith at Mailboxes direct at 44 – 46 Morningside Road, Edinburgh EH10 4BF, telephone 0131 556 6226 or info@mbeedinburgh.com.  Mailboxes will arrange to collect your lots from us at Rosewell (items purchased from the saleroom in Dumfries will be transferred to Rosewell by us free of charge).

Q. Is there disabled access to the auction room? 


Both auction centres are fully accessible for our less mobile visitors.
